If you split cubic block of glass 1x1x1 into two prisms and move them apart?

the light will not be able to pass through the gap, because of total internal reflection in the first prism.

—–v gap v
—–+ . . . +++++++
—->++ . . . ++++++
—->+++ . . . +++++
—->++++ . . . ++++
—->+++++ . . . +++
—->++++++ . . . ++
—–+++++++ . . . +

But if you move the prisms closer, and closer together,
the gap will gradually close, until in the end you will have one original block of glass (only composed of two separate pieces).

Will the light be now able to pass through the composite cube?
