You accidentally step on a piece of glass?

You accidentally step n a piece of sharp glass. In a fraction of a second, you would complete a series of actions to avoid further damage to your foot and immediately check the wound. How is your nervous system involved in this series of actions?

This would be my completely layman answer:
When the glass damages the skin, the nerve endings in the skin immediately recognize the danger and send a signal to the brain, “hey, something bad is going on down here. The foot is hurt!” The brain in response send a message to the foot, “Hey idiot, get away from the danger!” This results in you pulling away the foot from the glass before you even know what that sharp feeling of pain was.
Then the nerves tell the brain, “foot successfully removed from the danger area.” At this point, the brain (being the boss and always wanting to control everything) asks for a damage report. More nerves now come into play and make you raise your leg, so that your eyes can see the bottom of your foot.
    Helpful?

Nerves in your foot send an electrical signal to your spine (not your brain, which would take too long) and your spine tells your foot to rapidly move away from the danger (glass shard)

Does it matter how your “nervous system” is involved? You step on the glass, you flinch, you scream, say ow, hop to a seat and lift up your foot to take a look & remove the glass.

Why analyze a piece of glass in your foot so much? I don’t get it.

Nervous system senses a penetration through the skin, sends a message to the brain to check it out. That’s about it.

Saba – wrong reflex. Stepping on glass would stimulate the flexor reflex (with crossed extensor reflex), not the stretch (myotatic) reflex.

OP, google “flexor reflex” and “crossed extensor reflex” and you’ll have your homeowork answers.

the nervous systems job is to send pain signals to your brain and you brain sends signels to your vocal cords and you are yelling by then au au au
