A carbide drill bit, available in all large hardware stores will pierce the whiskey bottle without cracking the glass. It is best to use a marker and make the exact spot where you want to make the hole. then mask the area around the spot with masking tape. This will help prevent the drill bit from slipping.

You need a diamond tipped drill bit. You can usually find them in the tool corral at Home Depot.
Hope that helps!

They make drill bits just for glass, use a low speed and don’t press hard though. Make sure you are wearing safety goggles and gloves.

Get a 3 corner file, Grind off the teeth, and continue to grind it so that it is sharp on all three sides and all the way down to the point. Grind it slowly so that it doesn’t get hot. you must use a fine wheel. We want this tool to be razor sharp. then you want a brace, It is the handle to an old wood drill. They used to call it a brace and bit. the reason that you use this handle is we need to turn the drill very slow. install the newly made tool in the brace. For this you will need some turpentine. Put some turpentine on the glass where you want the hole and start turning the drill that you made. The secret is to keep it wet with turpentine all the while that you are drilling. Good luck

About Me
ALES LOMBERGAR is one of the few artisans in Europe who still practice the ancient art of glass acid etching which flourished in the late 19th century. Decorations are applied with resin resists by hand and then exposed to acid baths, with no machinery used. More information here.
