Will 1 glass of wine hurt or help?
I am 24 weeks pregnant and I just woundered doctors say 1 glass of wine with dinner is healthy for you but is it still ok when you are pregnant or should you not have that glass of wine with dinner. Mind you I have not been drinking at all since finding out I am pregnant I am just woundering if it would help or hurt if I were to have that 1 glass with dinner every night.

Pregnancy can be a rewarding and memorable experience, but it does require some sacrifices. The fact of the matter is that no level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy has proven to be 100% safe.
The controversy exists surrounding the occasional drink, and there are no definitive risks truth be told that can be associated with occasional consumption. The consensus however remains among health professionals that pregnant women are far better abstaining from alcohol completely.
EDIT: Is the “thumbs down” troll in the house, 6 thumbs down for telling her to abstain? I’m confused!
On second thought Toni, drink a 5th a day, and smoke crack while your at it, I’m sure your baby will be just fine!
Now you should no I’m not serious, I’m just confused by all the haters here, for me advising you to abstain.

Any alcohol consumed during pregnancy can affect your baby. Alcohol ingested during pregnancy is absorbed rapidly and crosses the placenta, and circulates in the baby in amounts similar to those in the mother. Alcohol affects the growth of the baby, as well as neurological development. Some factors that determine the effects of the alcohol on the baby include the amount of alcohol ingested, time of gestation, maternal age, and health. Many things can lead to a “fussy” baby, and managing a fussy baby can be difficult.

When I was 34 weeks pregnant I started to go into labor. They doctor told me to drink a glass of wine with dinner to relax. It will not hurt you if you have a glass of wine with dinner once in a while. I would double check with your doctor first though. I would say if you have been having a healthy pregnancy it should be fine. I remember my doctor telling me that this is how they use to treat preterm labor back in the day. I didn’t believe him!! Then when I got home and told my mother about it she said her doctor said the same thing to her when she was pregnant with me. I am not a drinker AT ALL..I have never been drunk a day in my life. But anything to stop the contractions I was up for doing anything..I had my son at 39 weeks and this was my first pregnancy.
My son is now 7 months old and very healthy.

Alcohol and pregnancy don’t mix. That’s because no one knows exactly what harmful effects even the smallest amount of alcohol has on a developing baby.
When you drink, the alcohol quickly travels through your bloodstream to your baby. Your baby may end up with higher levels of blood alcohol than you have.
Drinking endangers your growing baby in a number of ways: It increases the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth. As little as one drink a day can increase the odds for low birth weight and raise your child’s risk for problems with learning, speech, attention span, language, and hyperactivity. And some research has shown that expectant moms who have as little as one drink per week are more likely than nondrinkers to have children who later exhibit aggressive and delinquent behavior.
The most severe result of alcohol use is fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), a permanent condition characterized by poor growth, abnormal facial features, and damage to the central nervous system. Babies with FAS grow poorly in the womb or after birth, or both. In addition to abnormal facial features, they may have abnormally small heads and brains; heart, spine, and other anatomical defects. The central nervous system damage may include mental retardation, delays in physical development, vision and hearing problems, and a variety of behavioral problems.
Frequent drinking (seven or more drinks per week, including mixed drinks, wine, and beer) or binge drinking (five or more drinks on any one occasion) greatly increases the risk that your baby will suffer from FAS. But babies whose moms drink less can also develop this syndrome. And babies exposed to alcohol in utero ? even if they don’t have full-blown FAS ? may still be born with some of these birth defects or later exhibit a number of mental, physical, or behavioral problems.

No wine!! Healthy for your heart when you are not pregnant has nothing to do with the baby’s health. Please don’t drink any! If you would like those benefits, talk to your dr about the safety of taking an extra supplement.

Drinking is not safe during pregnancy. The only time any doctor will suggest a as in one glass of wine is after having amniocentesis done because it relaxes the uterus. Lay off the booze for a little longer. It’s not going to hurt you to wait until after you have the baby.

Everyone has a different answer for this. I would just stay away from it. But if you really want a glass, it should be fine. Obviously stick to one glass. And don’t drink one everyday. If you do stick to red wine.
