Why would you “put it in a glass case and throw sugar at it”?
Someone on the radio just read out a rude poem sent in by a listener about the show’s producer – then said he intended to put it in a glass case and throw sugar at it. Googling, I see this phrase used, but I can’t for the life of me work out what it means! What kinds of things would you do this to? Where does it come from? Enlighten me!

an expression of delight in some object.
its so good you want to keep it safe, hang it up.
[sugar is usually used to literally make something taste nicer] therefore by throwing sugar your making the object appear even nicer
its an english/irish phrase
the radioman probably meant “wow this poem is gold ill put it in a glass case and because its so rude ill throw sugar at it [to make it better], or because its so good ill throw sugar at it [metaphorically speaking] to make it even greater than it really is.
