Why does my cat insist on drinking out of my glass or the toilet?
If I have a glass of water, my cat fights me beacuse she wants it. If I leave the toilet lid down, she sits there until I open it so she can get a drink. I fill her water bowl everyday with fresh water but she WILL NOT drink from it. Why does she do this and how can I get her to stop? Its driving me crazy. I almost have to get cups with lids so she will leave mine alone! lol I love her but shes a nut!

there could be a couple reasons….the glass, it might be that she views it as hers (much like you are hers and she loves you) and the toilet is usually fresh. my cats like the “fish soup” they like to drink from the filter of the fish tank. luckily i have a 30 gallon tank so they dont knock it over. but i also have a male cat that will drink the bathwater, but only if someones in the tub too!! cats are very easy to spoil, i have a kitty door that we installed in the window but they would rather have the front door opened for them. good luck! my momma cat still has to have a taste of whatever ive got ( shes 4)

Territory. its theres, everything is theres. Also it is like marking their spot. A cat has favorites, food, person. sleeping place. Think you may own a cat that loves the couch, and another who lives for the windowsill. same goes for drinking locale. He likes the tub and another wants your glass.

The water in the water bowl may be fresh at the begining of the day, but not at the end. Also, cats like cold water. The water in her dish is no doubt room temp within an hour or so. My cats figured out how to use the water cooler to make a big mess all over the floor so they could have fresh, cold water. I bought a kitty water fountain (a little thing that circulates and cools the water all day) and that solved the problem.

Its the freshness of the water. If they can hear it they will want to drink it. My cat would do it all the time except she would want me to leave the faucet running for her. To get her to stop I would say to just keep a lid on everything or blow gently in her face.

Our cats drink out of the toilet to. They like water that was/is running. Yes it would be good to get a cat fountain.

I tried the fountain. It worked for a few days and she was right back to the toilet.

Ugh…my 17 year old cat has decided for the past couple of weeks to drink from my water glass. I put it on the counter, the island bar, the coffee table, anywhere I leave it or move it she finds if.
She has one of those pet water fountains that I clean once/week, and her water is the same as mine, from the PUR water filter.
Any suggestions – it’s really getting annoying!

I am experiencing this same problem. (Tho not with the toilet)
My husband and I have resorted to putting little custard cups on our water glasses because we can’t stop her.
I finally ordered a water fountain with flowing water. She does like that and drinks the moving stream rather than the still water. I have watched her when she goes to the bowl I give her. She puts her paw in first and gets the water to move before she’ll drink it. I have a little food and water bowl holder which came with metal (stainless steel bowls.) She will only drink out of that water bowl if desperate. Her preference – even over the water fountain – is our water glasses. So I keep a small wide water glass in various places just for her.
If you can’t beat ’em….

She may have kidney failure or diabetes. Get her blood checked. I had this happen to one of my cats. 🙁

Both of my cats only want to drink out of my glass, I have even given them a glass of their own at the same time I have mine and on on the same table. They ignore the water bowl and toilet. It does not matter if it is fresh or stale. I thought it could it be that they want my smell on the glass so I took a sip off the one I gave them but it did not work. This is crazy…

I’ve had cats all of my life but never one that preferred drinking water from my glass until now. I fought it at first, scolding and moving him to his bowl but then my husband and I found it unique so we provided him (Jaxon) with his own cup!
