because we spit and sweat alot…HA–HA! seriously, its kind of like a drummer having a monitor, reflects back sound. also helps to not drown out vocs. guitars, on the stage. just makes things easier for the band to be able to hear things easier. if recording a live show, this is done too.. helps simulate studio quality conditions to record

I think it’s a safety thing… if their sticks split and go flying out into the audience people can get hurt.

It’s so you don’t get other sounds bleeding into the drum mics.

Acoustics. The drums you can’t ‘turn down’, so they are behind a screen.

I believe it is to lower their sound so that the other instruments/vocals are not overpowered.

I don’t know what kind of concerts you go to, but the ones I go to the drummers are not enclosed. During recording they will be because the drums will over ride the other instrument’s sounds. Also, when recording, the singer is usually in a booth, so it will be clearer.

About Me
ALES LOMBERGAR is one of the few artisans in Europe who still practice the ancient art of glass acid etching which flourished in the late 19th century. Decorations are applied with resin resists by hand and then exposed to acid baths, with no machinery used. More information here.
