ALES LOMBERGAR is one of the few artisans in Europe who still practice the ancient art of glass acid etching which flourished in the late 19th century. I know what acid etching is of the enamel during a dental procedure. It is used to clean the tooth before any bonding agent is used to make a restoration stick. Almost like a primer before paint is applied.

Etching removes any debris that might be on the tooth as well as roughens up the surface. This creates many tiny “pockets” on the tooth so that when the liquid bonding agent “the glue” gets applied to the tooth, it flows into the little pockets so that the filling will hold on tight to your tooth.
