What is a glass eye?

My friends say my chemistry teacher has a glass eye. What do they mean by that?

The teacher has only one eye. The other has been cut out surgically because of damage or disease and in order not to leave just the socket where the eye was appearing as an empty hole, a prosthetic device made or glass or plastic and colored to look like a real eye has been provided so that it can be put into the empty socket each morning and removed at night.

glass eye refers to a missing eye from say an accident and they repalce the eye with a fake one to help the self esteem of the person or to keep gawkers from pointing. if you have cable the history channel has a show called modern marvels that shows how their made. most of todays eyes are made of polycarbonate and all of them are custom made for that specific person
