Thatcher Glass Manufacturing , Elmira, NY went bankrupt in 1986…the original Thatcher Plant is now Anchor Glass…still operating at this time. Company Management ran Thatcher Glass in the ground in an attempt to “BUST” the union according to outside sources who looked at exactly what happened to cause the bankruptcy, not to mention management “Cooked the Books” while illegally firing Union Employees throughout the years! Thatcher Glass Manufacturing was ran into the ground by Company Management…while profits were diverted to other sources…leaving Thatcher Glass manufacturing with no avenue of a future……..the Union made concession after concession in an attempt to save the company, but management had other idea’s and kept fleecing the company of any chance of avoiding bankruptcy…finally in 1986…Thatcher Glass manufacturing ceased to exsist and was taken over by another company……and into the American history books went the Thatcher Glass manufacturing era…..

Working at Thatcher glass was my favorite job. I always enjoyed going to work and I really liked the rotating shifts. I wish that more products came in glass containers today. I worked at the plant in Wharton nj, and I was a monitor or lehr gauger. Thank u for that great job. Donna margretta

My father worked at TMS Saugus, CA . 1960-1970.
Also know as Santa Clarita now. I remember beer, pop, all kinds of bottles being made.
At Christmas time was the best , as they played around and made great vases out of the ” bad” casts offs.
To me , if you have any of the original bottles, keep and sell on eBay.
Thanks for the memories.

My Mom and step Dad both worked for and retired from Thatcher Glass in Tampa (started in Elmira, NY). They have both since passed away. I have a set of 2 glass coffee cups with TMC Tampa etched in them. Has anyone seen anything like them and/or know their worth. Thanks in advance.

Thatcher Glass brought our family to CA from Elmira. My father, Chuck Clark, was transferred here and opened the place. That was 1955. Two years after he retired Thatcher Glass closed down.

I have a very old Thatcher Milk opener. Five inches long , very legible writing on the handle. The opener has a very pointy prong for popping open the paper caps that were used to seal the milk bottles. Anyone interested?
Thanks!
