Hi!
I use oven cleaner, the kind that dosen’t smell bad. I think it works very well. Then I clean after with window cleaner. It is hard though , to keep it clean enough to see the fire if you heat your house with it. I think you have to clean it aleast once a week then.

If it is greasy, then use oven cleaner. It doesn’t damage the glass inside of a stove. It won’t do any damage.

Lemon juice, you would have to let it stay on for a while (a few hours)…also, there might actually be a special cleaner for this…call around to places that sell the stoves!

I have an insert, same as wood stove w/glass door.
You can successfully clean it with ammonia, water, sos pad & a final spray of glass cleaner or plain ole water & dry rag.
…The SOS pad will not scratch the glass.
There’s likely a build up on the glass from the wood. Its the resins from the wood that have burned on the glass & a natural thing with burning wood.
Make sure the glass is cold-no fire burning.
Put you an old newspaper under area to clean, wet the glass with ammonia (I keep ammonia & water in a spray bottle). Soak your SOS pad in water or ammonia & scrub & scrub until you break thru the burnt on surface. Once you break thru it’ll scrub off easily.Be sure get in the corners of the glass….After it’s clean, rinse it off with plain ole water & spray with glass clean & wipe dry or can use plain water to clean the glass up from the ammonia & SOS pad.

We’ve had a stove for years, there’s two ways you can clean the glass. You can dip a paper towel in water and dip it your old ashes, this will wipe it right off….or like others have said, you can spray the cool glass with oven cleaner, let it sit for a minute then wipe it off with a paper towel. Either way will clean it up!

Take a wet piece of newspaper and dab some of the ashed from the bottom of the wood stove and rub that over the glass. Then wipe with a clean piece of damp newspaper. Repeat until the glass is clean.

About Me
ALES LOMBERGAR is one of the few artisans in Europe who still practice the ancient art of glass acid etching which flourished in the late 19th century. Decorations are applied with resin resists by hand and then exposed to acid baths, with no machinery used. More information here.
