Theorys on the glass half full or empty?

this is my stand…..

it is the age old questoin is the glass half full or half empty i have quite a therory on this, what was the glass before you changed it. if the glass was empty and you filled it half way then wouldnt it be half full because it started empty? and it it was full and you removed half then it would be half full because it used to be full.

now whats yours….

I disagree, though your theory made sense at first. If we consider a person pouring away half his glass, if would also be considered half empty as he emptied his glass halfway as well. I think we can argue this case both ways depending on how we want to justify our cases. For me, I would just rate it on whether we are more on the optimistic or pessimistic side.

half empty and half full are the same thing..

The saying pertains more to a philosophy. A pessimist says it’s half empty, an optimist says it’s half full.

I know, I know you meant “and if it was full and you removed half then it would be half empty because it used to be full”.

Ok, if that is what it means to you.

But the point of the question originally was to understand the positive or negative attitudes of individuals.

If you are finding situations as a glass half full you will approach it with a positive attitude and usually succeed.

If on the other hand you find most situations as a glass half empty you will usually be depressed and unsuccessful.

It really has nothing to do with a glass of liquid.

Over simplification of some things can lead to misunderstanding.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

i really think this theory only started to see which way humans look at life. the negative ones would say half empty and the positive ones would say half full. It really just started as a psychological way of viewing peoples internal feelings towards the world. It was neevr meant to be taken so far into thinking. However i say half empty, but im negative and go through life and have learned to accept thats my way of thinking. ?
But yea what you said really does make sense if it where meant as a brain teaser.

I took 2 glasses of water and I asked my 6 year old son what was half full and what was half empty. ‘They both look the same Mum, but it’s how they start that’s important.’ He emptied both and said ‘both empty, both the same.’ He filled the glasses up and said, ‘both the same Mum.’ Then he drank half of one and said ‘half empty. He emptied the other one and filled it half way up and said, ‘half full.’ It doesn’t really matter what is full or empty, the important thing is what they feel. Drink up and never stop being thirsty.

Whether the glass is half full or half empty, just be happy you have a glass and something in it! That’s my theory!

its not that hard stupid, all this is, is your own perception at that specific moment of having optimism or no optimism in your own mind.

i think this question was directed at a persons mentality. and there answer would be valulated whether it was half full or half empty.

Wow, don’t you have better things to do then this??? How about solving the hunger problems, welfare, child abuse, how to improve wages or better yet, how to get rid of BUSH! Yes, that would be WONDEERFUL!!!!

Depends on your perception…..do you see a half empty glass or a half full glass..the best answer to this question is the one that you perceive.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?

BUT! You have a glss with nothing in it. That would ba an EMPTY glass. If you added water to the half way point, then wouldn’t it be only HALF empty now? And vice versa…

    I’m a realist. It’s half there

It’s the same as the difference between black and white. If you took out half from the glass then it’s black and the other way backwards is white. Then white is half a glass and black is the other half. Didn’t your mommy teach you anything?

I believe it’s suppose to B full 2 begin with then personal emotions kick in N Ur views of life, Do you want it to be full again = “it’s half empty”, or, have U enjoy the journey and considerably admire= “it’s half full” Despite mine I still think ” it’s half Fool”

Engineers and A Glass of Water:

To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Rather than waste time on a pyhloshopical debate that will only lead to more questions without answers perhaps should should simply grab the glass, slam down the contents and then attack life with a passion. In the end you’ll have lots more fun and trust me, a lot of answers to questions as yet unasked.

THE GLASS IS HALF EMPTY!!! SIMPLE SINCE THE GLASS IS THERE FULL EMPTY SINCE THE BEGINNING ONLY TO BE FILLED WITH SOME LIQUID AND MAKE IT HALF EMPTY!!! EVEN IF GLASS WAS FILLED FULLY AND LATER EMPTIED BY HALF IT WAS EMPTY AT THE BEGINNING SO THE SPACE THAT WAS OCCUPIED BY THE LIQUID MAKES THE GLASS HALF EMPTY!!

Myself I always like my glasses filled to the brim!!!

If the glass of water is just sitting there and no one plans on drinking it, its half fuller than it needs to be.
