The most common form of glass is soda-lime glass.
Main ingredient: Sand
Second: Soda Ash
Third: Limestone
And then a variety of other chemicals which influence the melting process and the working characteristics of the glass. All of these chemicals are mixed together and then melted in a furnace at a temperature around 2300 to 2450 Fahrenheit. Then it is allowed to cool to somewhere in the range of 1900 to 2000 degrees. This is the best temperature range to work with hot glass for most things.
For different colors different chemicals are added as well. Cobalt makes blue, Manganese makes purple, etc, etc…
There is also borosilicate glass and lead crystal glass, but in the end all glass is made out of sand.
