Removal of “glass bloom” from drinking glasses that have been in the dishwasher?
My drinking glasses have that “squeaky clean” feel, and mosty of them have white marks on the surface. Any ideas? Thanks

As others have said it is either mineral deposits or etching. you should adjust your water temperature up a little so you have at least 130 degree water IN the dishwasher. Low water temperatures assist etching and mineral deposits. You should also run the hot water in the sink untill it gets the hottest it can before starting the dishwasher to ensure that you at least start off with good hot water.

Might be hard water. There are rinse-aids that soften the water and prevent streaking. You might want to try one of those. make sure your dishwasher is set to dry with heat and air. Another thing you might try is to change your dishwashing detergent.

Soap scum if you are lucky. The worst would be they’ve been etched. If the marks rub off or rubs off with vinegar, then soap or beginning hard water. If they won’t budge even with Lime Away, the glass has been etched and can’t be eliminated.

This is caused by mineral deposits from the water and detergent. If the glass has not been etched by the deposit, you can try to remove it by soaking the glass in a solution of CLR and water. You can buy CLR at your local department or hardware store. Just follow the directions on the back of the bottle. I have used this to clean mineral deposits from shower doors, faucets and even the coffee pot. Just make sure to rinse thoroughly before using again.

clean the dishwasher with dishwasher cleaner and use some kind of rinse agent . (cascade, jet blue.etc.)
If you can’t find some dishwasher cleaner…use Tang, 2 cups in a normal (hot) wash…(it has ascorbic acid, the same stuff in the regular dishwasher cleaner)

Bloom caused by etching can be removed by polishing the glass with jewellers’ rouge or failing that with a metal polish like Brasso. This may take some time but it works.

The white stuff is most likely because you are now using non phosphate dish soap. The early attempts at non phosphate dish sop did not work so well and left this white film. I had the same problem and once I used up the old soap the problem went away.
