My new window has a light green tint in the glass compared to my others. How can I fix it?
I ordered a clear glass window so I’m not sure if the originals were tinted so they look different or what. Is it normal for clear window glass to appear light green? It’s only noticeable from the outside and my home owners assoc isn’t going to like this! Help!

The color is due to excessive iron impurity. Glass often has iron impurity from the sand used to produce glass but in some cases the iron impurities are worse than others. You’ll notice most glass looks green from the edge because you’re looking through thicker glass, so iron in glass is normal. There is a complicated science involved in correcting this tint, having to due with adjusting the ratio of iron oxidation states. Unfortunately that can only be done at melting of the glass and so the only solution you have is to contact the manufacturer and tell them they put too much iron in your glass.
They will likely replace it as this is a common defect.

Although the tint in the glass is probably better than the clear, you would have to go back to the source you got the window from and have it replaced… looks like someone didn’t pay attention to what you wanted… good luck

Many new windows have a UV protectant either between the panes of glas, or added to the outside glass during manufacture. This is an enrgy conservation feature, as well as a health feature. Older windows do not have this protectant.

If you have access to a Jiffy steamer or similar steam machine, you can make quick work of tint removal. Apply the steam to a small spot for a few moments and use a blade or the spout of the steamer to peel the area just steamed, when you have enough to hold, just peel slowly as you steam just ahead of the area you are peeling.
This will bring both layers of tint off and sometimes the adhesive too, without presoaking for an hour.
