Make glass?
I am looking for info on the ingredients of just plain glass and how hot the sand and stuff has to be before it melts into glass.

Try looking into Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y.- they are a top ceramics school in the country, and also have a glass-making course and glass -making curriculum, I believe. Small school, big focus.

The simplist plain glass requires sand, soda ash, and limestone. For some example recipes go here
http://users.ticnet.com/mikefirth/batch.htm
The soda ash lowers the melting point (fluxes) the quartz in the sand from 3100F while the limestone stabilizes the mix which with only soda ash will be corroded by water. Other ingredients reduce color and help get bubbles out of mix.
A typical recipe is cooked at about 2400F for 4-8 hours and then reduced to 2000-2100F for use.
