Is it ok to drink a glass of wine at 35 weeks?
Has anyone else done that and does it effect the baby at all? I’d really love a warm bath and a glass of wine right now!

they do it all the time in every other country besides the US…
and they don’t have increased rates of FAS
the US is the only place that basically harasses pregnant women into not drinking at all. (FAS is caused by constant alcohol exposure–having several drinks every day)
one glass of red wine has actually been recommended by doctors & midwives to help the mother relax, and there’s something in it that helps the blood too…
just no more than one 6 oz glass. (and eat prior to drinking it as well)
[i’m going to get a TON of thumbs down for this one, i know it!]
edit: oh, and the bath, warm is fine, hot is a no go, btw.
happy relaxing!! : )

If it is ONE small glass of RED wine, I think it would be OK. I would check with your Dr but I think an occasional glass of RED wine is considered OK (even when you are pregnant).
and I would check about the bath, too. I think there is a danger if it’s too warm.

Mabe 1/2 a glass. There are plenty of studies that say a glass of red wine is perfectly ok when you’re pregnant. I wouldn’t do it though.

A small glass is fine once a day! It will not harm the baby!

My sister drank a glass of wine once a week as her doctor told her it was fine….My nephew is 8 and perfectly fine. I would say if you really would like a glass of wine have one but no more than that.

Although it is doubtful that a single, small glass of wine will do any harm to the baby, the amount of alcohol that can cause harm is unkown. It is this unknown that puts many a mother-to-be to play it safe and just avoid it all together.
As a wine connoisseur, I have been in your position and have opted to just drinking cranberry juice or oj…just not the same, but it’s just a few weeks more. ( I’ll be 37 weeks tomorrow) 😉
Good luck and congratulations.

There is a lot of debate over whether or not a small glass of wine affects baby. When I was pregnant I did not imbibe but would have a sip of what my husband was drinking. We are not big drinkers so I at most had maybe 6 sips of wine/beer throughout my entire pregnancy. There are some doctors that say an occasional glass of wine is ok. When my sister had her amnio the doctor told her to put her feet up and have a small glass of wine. The best thing to do is talk directly with your doctor. I guarentee you will not be the first mom to ask your doctor and they will be glad that you are asking questions.

Doctors have different views on this. I’ve had friends that drink occasionally throughout the pregnancy, and friends that don’t touch it (I myself don’ t touch the stuff while pregnant.)
Here’s what it really comes down to:
Is it REALLY worth it? Would you rather have a glass of wine than know for certain that you’re not hurting your baby?

I’ve got to agree with you in the harassment thing. Some doctors will leave you alone on the issue, some may be mildly supportive, and others might guilt trip, confront, have a substance abuse hotline call you–be prepared. Friends and family members may wonder openly if you are alcoholic since you “refuse” to give it up.
I’m not at all the kind of person to just take what the government says as absolute truth. I do a lot of studying myself on many products and find myself starkly disagreeing with government conclusions. Alcohol in pregnancy is one of those issues, and trust me, it carries with it a whole lot of historical, social, and moral baggage.
What the studies time after time told me is that up to 5-8 drinks (usually the highest measured category into which all higher levels of drinking were also grouped) a week there were no observable behavioral or physical defects (no FAS or FASD or low IQ or decrease of abilities in math, vocabulary, pattern recognition, or anything else they tested in children. After reading dozens of similar studies, I came to the same conclusions that I do when not pregnant; basically that moderation is important, and a mind-altered state is typically not healthy. (Though particularly so for a young fetus whose organs are not as equipped as an adult’s to metabolize alcohol.)
Earlier in my pregnancy, I decided that a 1/2 drink would be my limit a couple times a week, and as the baby developed and I moved into my third trimester, I felt comfortable with closer to a serving and somewhat more frequently. Maximum I would have about 3-4 drinks per week, usually less.
I am honestly so tired of being judged for what I think has been a logical decision that I am ready to can all my own studying and just conform to society’s whims, rather than continuing to face the barrage of accusations about my inability to not harm my precious baby. That’s a lot for an expecting mother to stomach, even if it isn’t logical.
