Is a glass of wine safe…I am 40 weeks pregnant today?
I would love to have a glass of wine so I can relax…maybe gear myself up for sex…Also is sex safe if you are dilated???

I am thinking that you are 40 weeks pregnant and prolly getting to that miserable stage I know I was at 36 weeks. You are prolly ready for this baby to be born already , so I say if you want a glass of wine you should have a glass of wine and dont let anyone else judge you it is perfectly safe, for news years eve i was 24 weeks and my doctor told me if I wanted a glass of wine to go for but dont over indulge so trust your own judgment at this point you deserve a glass of wine cause pregnancy isn’t easy by any means.
Good Luck!!!!!

I am pretty sure any amount of alcohol is not safe during any stage in pregnancy. Sex is possible while pregnant, but idk but being dilated… ask your doctor?

on November 30th, -0001
yes, it should be safe. as long as you have no more than one glass. actually some doctors recommend that a glass of wine per night can help keep your heart healthy. ( it has nothing to do with pregnancy, but i thought you should know.)

Sex is actually reccommended for some to help induce labour wen overdue, I had sex all the way through my pregnancy with no problem. I also had a glass of wine at my 21st and at my husbands 22nd birthdays! I don’t think it did any harm! I have a beautiful healthy boy, although a month premature he was a very healthy seven pound!

Sex is fine, as long as your waters haven’t ruptured.
I wonder as to why you want to have a drink though? Assuming that you have gone the entire pregnancy without drinking? What’s a few more weeks? (months if you plan to breast feed). I would give it a miss, there are some who say total abstinence, yet there are others who say that the odd glass will not hurt. Personally for myself, I drank about an inch of beer when I was 4 months preg with my son and he is fine, didn’t drink at all with the second.

To answer the wine question, its probably safe, but cant you just wait a few days JUST IN CASE?! AND yes, you can have sex when dialated, just not if your water broke. BTW, sex doesnt harm a fetus, F.A.S. isnt relevant here either, and to the girl who had the baby a month premature, how do you know that the alcohol didnt cause that problem? They dont know what brings on premature labor, and a babies birth size has nothing to do with his capacity to thrive at birth. Easy rule to follow, when youre pregnant, dont drink, smoke or do drugs. The idiot who said smoking weed wouldnt harm a fetus, well, we could examine the wrongs in that statement, but, why bother, hes probably at mcdonalds feeding his bloated gut.

wine is ok, It cleanses the body. As for sex.. thats ok too. We had sex up to the day of my induction, and I was dialated 3 cm when i went in. I would just make sure not to have rough sex. No worrys, baby is all formed and ready to come out at 40wks!

my first son was late coming and my doc was an old timer, Marcus Welby type, he suggested i have a beer or glass of wine, to help relax me, and it worked i went into labor the next day so i don’t think one glass at this point will hurt
wow, these people are brutal, she is 40 weeks pregnant, she did not say she wanted to go get drunk, just have a glass of wine, the baby is who the baby is going to be, she is not in her first or even second trimester, she is 40 weeks anyone ever been there wow give her a brake,
you need a glass of wine now, since these people are accusing you of such horror, enjoy your wine i hope it helps, good luck, just ignore these ridiculous answers

If you are 40 weeks it is prob okay to have one glass. However, look how far you have come why bother risking it at this late stage.

I was so stressed out from my pregnancy that I was advised by not just 1 but 3 different doctors that having 1 glass of wine, meaning less than 6 oz, just once a week will have no effect on the baby at that point in your pregnancy. I was told this at 39weeks.
Sex is a very good thing when you are pregnant. It prepares your uterus with the contractions and if your 40 weeks it can help your body go into labor naturally. The contractions and the prostaglandins in the semen help start labor sometimes. Yes its safe if your dialated. As long as your water hasnt broke yet. Most doctors will recommend it unless your high risk because it saves you the pain of being induced with Pitocin.
So yes on both fronts.

first ill apologise for some tardiness ….
secondly… I dont think it will harm your baby if it is just one.. and maybe you wont even enjoy it as much as you think you will… and sex is safe while pregnant…. i heard a midwife tell a lady to go home and tell her hubby the great news… “that they were recomended to have intercourse”.. LOL… so yes it is ok… just be carefull and dont do anything tricky…
good luck hun… and congrats!!!….

Wine, big no. If you drink enough so you feel relaxed, baby is going to be feeling relaxed to.
Sex is fine until your water has broken. Being that your baby is in a very soft and protective water sac, it is fine to have sex even though you are dilated. I’m sure its only a small amount or the doctor would have hospitalized you.

docs always say to have sex no harm should be done and wine is made of fruit and healthy things yes you’re pregnant but i think more good would come of drinking it then harm so just relax

A glass of wine in the thrid trimester is not going to cause an otherwise healthy baby to become endangered.
Sex at this point might induce labor. Be careful.

i have heard of a lot of people drinking a glass of wine to induce labor. i don’t see the big deal. your baby is already developed. your not suppose to shoot up pain medicine throughout your pregnancy but its perfectly safe while your in labor.
I’m not a doctor though but my opinion is that it wont hurt

ONE glass of wine is not going to hurt this baby. She is fully developed neurologically at this point. Geez.
I dont know on the sex question, I would imagine as long as your water has not broken, then it should be fine…..

Ask your doctor… Mine suggested that I have sex. Also, my mother-in-law was told to drink 1/4 to 1/2 glass of wine per night to relax after chasing two active boys around all day. Of course, many people say absolutely no alcohol during pregnancy – but how many have had a drink or two before they knew they were pregnant – and that is during the MAJOR development stages!!! I got married 1 week before I found out I was pregnant, and there is nothing wrong with my son – and you know I had a few cocktails before/during/after the whole wedding weekend!

OK I’m no Dr but i know that in other countries they encourage pregnant women to drink a glass of wine a day. and i have also heard of midwifes telling there patience to drink a glass of wine to bring on labor. i think that in America we over do everything so they figure if they tell us no we will only do it on occasion lol. i never drank with my son but i don’t really like alcohol of any kind especially wine so it was a non-issue.and sex is safe as long as your water has not broken. it is supposed to help bring on labor. the theory is that something in the ejaculate helps the water to break. so have fun.

i went into preterm labour at 28 weeks with my first child and spent 12 weeks in hospital to hold her in there. When the dinner trolley came around they also offered all the mums a glass of wine i asked the doc and he recommended it. So i would go for it one glass if more than safe and shagg your brains out lady wont be much time soon lol good luck.

I was actually told by my doctor that a glass of wine every three months is safe. I don’t like wine so i have never bothered and i am 19 weeks and 4 days. At 40 weeks I’d say you deserve it. Enjoy your glass of wine. I hope it helps you to relax, pretty soon you wont have much time to relax at all.
As for the sex, it it perfectly safe as long as your water hasn’t broken. Enjoy, it might even help to bring on labor.
Congratulations on the bundle of joy!

Go for it!! When I was 8 days overdue, my midwife told me to go home and have a glass of wine before bed, I did, and my waters broke the next day, so if you’re wanting to possibly speed things up, a glass of wine would be great. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for wanting one glass of wine, at this late stage its going to do your baby absolutely no harm.
Relax, enjoy it, and good luck!!!

I actually had a glass last night…I’m 38 weeks and though some may say that’s too early still…I had the ok from my doctor. She was actually the one who told me to drink it. I can’t sleep at night and I have really bad back spasms from all the “extra” weight up front I’ve been lugging around these last few months. So she suggested I buy a bottle of RED wine and have a glass. I felt pretty dang good, let me tell ya! I read it needs to be red wine…it helps with thinning the blood, or something like that but I read too much probably!
The baby is pretty much fully developed by this point in our pregnancies…they warn against alcohol consumption in early pregnancy because everything is just starting to form and function, so that is where the risk of fetal alcohol syndrome comes in. I don’t think I could drink a glass a day however…maybe one a week. It’s just nasty!! but at this point, I’m almost willing to try anything…ALMOST! I know what will hurt me or my son…and you will know what’s right or wrong. But I think if you’re trying to relax, then one little glass won’t do anything but just that. I monitored my son’s movement after about 30 minutes after I finished my glass, and he was moving around just fine…probably feeling pretty good as well!! LOL good luck!

Okay picture this…
You’re beautiful, irreplaceable offspring is in your womb awaiting the day he can finally enter the world and meet his mommy and daddy. Cute, huh? Well if you drink that tempting glass of wine, you’re increasing your risks of birth defects, mental retardation in your beautiful child, or even a miscarriage. Does that sound worth it to you? I sure hope not.
PS; Sex is natural and healthy if you do it safe, so is sex during pregnancy. Go for it

first of all how can you be 40 WEEKS pregnant?-shouldve had a c-section.
Second NEVER drink when pregnant-Fetal Alcohol Syndrom can occur anytime.
Third having sex while pregnant can traumatize the child in the womb. Ask a doctor.

Both are completely safe. Sex is well recomended to go in to labor and 1 glass, not overdoing it, is completely fine to relax your body, red wine preferred, to help naturally induce labor. And throw in a bubble bath. I myself am at 40.4 weeks pregnant and my doctor has practically perscribed both, short of writing an actual perscription, to do to help relax and ease in to labor. I am scheduled to be induced on the 19th and want nothing more than to go in to labor before than. There is absolutely nothing wrong with either. It’s well recommended. Don’t let people who haven’t researched or never even been in the position tell you something they don’t know, even myself. Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one and it’s your choice what you chose to listen to. As you know you have probably gotten a lot of unsolicited advice throughout your pregnancy and you, with good judgement, knows what makes sense and doesnt. Good luck and hope you can find some relaxation, and after 40 weeks of pregnancy, you deserve it.

With my first baby I was 39weeks and 6 days. My doc told me to go home have a warm bath and drink a wine cooler. I did just that at 9:30pm and at 12:01 am I went into labor! My daughter was just fine and I am considering doing it again this time. I say GO FOR IT!!! Good Luck!!

Stop calling her selfish and making her feel guilty! One glass will not hurt the baby. Just sip it and enjoy! And by all means if you doctor told you to have sex do it! I am so tired of all the mothers who act like pregnancy is so perfect. I am 40 weeks and I have not had a glass of wine or any other drink my whole pregnancy but today I had one! I also have been having sex daily because I would like to meet my son and my feet look like sausages and my skin actually burns from stretching so far…. so whatever might help me go into labor safely… bring it on!

I am 40+1 weeks and am going to have a glass of red. I have had the very occasional wine during this pregnancy and my baby has been developing healthily. Also, I drank quite a bit just before I found out I was pregnant, I asked the midwife about this and she said not to worry as in the very beginning the baby isnt attched to you, as in it doesnt feed off the placenta til later on.

wow, people, at 40 weeks the kid is done cooking. there is no risk involved with a single glass of wine, its not like she said she wants to do shots. and yes, some doctors and midwives do tell their patients to have wine. don’t act like its scandalous.
40 weeks isn’t overdue, its full-term, the week of the due date. unless something is wrong or the mother has had one before, no good doctor is going to give a c-section at 40 weeks for time reasons.
and sex? also fine and a lot of times doctor-recommended.
y’all need to stop badgering a very pregnant woman over nothing.

Good lord people keep your nasty opinions to yourselves. At 40 weeks there is no danger in a single glass of wine FAS is developed in the 2nd trimester after Excessive drinking. Most drs recommend a glass of wine at this point to relax a stressed woman who is about to attempt the scariest and most demanding and rewarding experience of her life.
Also, Id like to remind you all that smoking and drinking during pregnancy were common and encouraged in our mothers and grandmothers, and frankly there were less incidences of ADHD , Celiac disease, and many other common birth defects and diseases of today possibly caused by medications and chemicals used on pregnant women without knowing the full affects.

I think I only visited this forum to see complete morons try to use scare tactics.
Idiots. Seriously. Anything is fine in moderation. Granted, I don’t know that I’d call any amount of illegal substances “moderate,” but I haven’t done the research so I wont force an ignorant opinion.
There are only a few reasons why a couple wouldn’t be able to have sex during pregnancy. It’s dangerous when you are at risk of premature delivery. This is for people who are having issues with incompetent cervix, or shortened cervix. (Obviously, because it helps you go into labor) Seeing as you’re full term, this doesn’t apply.
I’ve learned through speaking to mothers and midwifes that the biggest labor “induction” just seems to be relaxing. Sure, there is some chemical in sperm that is also in the medicines used for hospital induction. I believe, however, that “ultimate relaxation” is probably the best medicine. So, in short, yes sex is completely safe.
In the same since, so is your wine. I prefer a beer myself, which has less natural chemicals- but to each their own. So have a hot bath (together maybe?) some wine, and some shag time with your man. The baby will be here soon. =)
Just a note: The reason that there are such vast differences in peoples opinions is because research is limited. Think about it, it’s not like someone can take pregnant ladies into a lab and see what hurts the baby. So people over-react about the stupidest of things.
