I have just moved house and have one of those glass top stoves where the elements are under the glass?
whats the best way to clean it without scratching the glass, theres a little bit of burnt on…..something. thanks.

It is highly recommended to use the glass top cleaners available almost everywhere. If you have something on the glass that does not come off with the cleaner use a product called Barkeeper’s Friend. That can be found on your local supermarket’s shelves in the cleaning aisle usually with the cleansers such as Comet and Ajax.

They make ceramatop cleaner for smoothtop stoves. It works really well. They sell it at Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Use that and the back (teflon part) of a sponge after soaking the burned area for a while. Don’t scrub too hard. It should come right off.

one thing you can use is cook top for glass cok tops . you can find it at wal-mart or lowes.

First try turning on that element and setting it at high. This will help to burn off whatever is on there. If you’re lucky, after you turn the element off and let the glass cool, you will be able to wipe away the carbonized remains of …something. If that doesn’t work, you might have to go to a cleaner or some sort, but check carefully as some are not recommended for use on glass as the solvent will etch the glass. A good shower cleaner would probably work. That’s just a guess, as I’ve never tried it, but if it cleans gunk off of glass shower walls, it should be okay for the stove top.

Use a soft scrub type cleaner, or just a little baking soda in soap. One more thing my sister and I both use for the same tops… a one sided razor blade, it will take off the part that is cooked on, gently scrape, Its gone

they have a special glass cleaner for these stoves. i use a blade from a box cutter to clean the really tuff burned on grime. but do it at an angle and don’t gouge.but they also make plastic scrapers.

I had the same problem when I moved into my home a few years ago! I used the special cleaner, it gave it a nice polish but it didn’t get the burnt off gunk off.
I very, very, gently used a wet S.O.S. pad to slowly get it off. I may have used a razor straight-edge too, but the S.O.S. pad has worked really well.
To keep it clean on a regular basis, I just use a couple spritzes of Spick ‘n Span (the greatest all-purpose cleaner), let it set for a minute, then wipe of clean. Works like a charm :~)

besides the stove top cleaner everyone has mentioned, I use a dulled razor scraper to get the hard chunks off. Hold the scraper at a 45 degree angle and work gently. Don’t start trying to gouge it out!
It scrapes off without having to use a pad that may do damage to the entire surface.

Use the ceramic cook top cleaner.Get it cleaned off you can as others mention use a one sideded razor to gentle scrap off what won’t rub off. then always clean it after each use with the cleaner.
The dirertions that come with these types of stoves. states that spills left on it and reheated will often become permanent to always clean off spills before heating the burners again.
