etched glass is either chemically etched (with HF or bifluorides) or sandblasted.  Either way, you cannot harm the etch unless physically scraped (razor blade or the like).  any solvent like rubbing alcohol or paint thinner will not harm the etch.  Have at it.  Also, use something other than a paper towel.  the surface will be rough enough to leave fine paper burrs on the glass.  use a tightly woven rag.</description>
