Try glass cleaner or a vinegar and water solution.
The residue is probably some form of wax or adhesive.
if its sticky use goo be gone from craft stores if just a film use vinegar and warm water or rub with alcohol
WD-40 has worked for me in the past….

try a bit of vinegar & rub it dry with a screwed up page of a news paper

Use WD-40 it works GREAT.
It also removed marks on the floor.

I would use a fluid cleaner called AFTA. This stuff is great! It will take the ink off of the glass with no problem. I have used this stuff on a number of things from furs to carpets to tile floors and glass. I would not recommend using it on plastics though.
