How can i cover a glass front door without making it look tacky?
I am getting a place that has a front door with an oval glass feature right in the middle and you can see right into our living room.. i am just wondering how i am going to cover it and keep it looking nice from both the inside and outside of the house. does anyone have any ideas or know where i can get ideas?

Home Depot and Lowes sell this product that is very similar to a film, that you cover the glass with. But it comes in many varities like frosted glass, watercolored and stained glass. The stained glass ones are beautiful when the light shines through them, and they arent that easy to tell it’s not real. Appliing them is not difficult. Just cut it to fit the size you need, and put it on like a big sticker. I would use a wallpaper scraper though to smooth out any air bubbles. I believe the product cost about $17 a roll. And I cant remember the name but both stores sell it in their window blinds area.

curtains, or paint the glass to make it look like a stain glass mural

You can buy a ‘frosting’ film at DIY shops. That would be the easiest way for a low cost solution.

if you are willing to pay some money, you can buy Sage Glass through New Morning Windows. With the flip of a switch, the glass turns opaque. The only drawback is the price: $1000 a piece. You could also try traditional methods of a roll-up bamboo window blinds.

You could add curtains. Get some frosted mactac to place over the window. Go to a craft store and see if they have something to hang over the glass or you might try staining the glass.

If its not easily removable.. Apply tape around it then silver spray can for frosted effect like you get in bathrooms. Practice first a little on some old newspapers to get the feel. Voila.

Perhaps you could try picking up a can of stuff that acts like it frosts the glass. it is actually a chemical that you spray on to the glass and you can’t see through the glass once it is dry. you can also cut out designs from contact paper, apply it to the window and peel it off when the chemical is dry to make a custom designed window treatment. i did it in my living room window and it looks absolutely beautiful!
good luck

Use Glass Frosting Varnish is an acrylic medium which reproduces the ‘frosted’ effect of etched glass. I think it’s the best solution for your problem.

Frost film…comes in colors and some with patterns at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Just cut the size of your glass, mist the glass with tap water, apply the film, squeegie out the bubbles and you’re good to go!

I got faux stainless film for my refrigerator from the site below. They also have stained glass film made just for windows and it looks really pretty.

if you buy the rods that give tension to a cutain it would be practical because you could peek out when needed. make sure curtain is a solid so not a sheer so noone could look in. white is usually the color for doors.
