History of the dimple glass mug?
nobody I know seems to be able to find when the glass dimple mug was first introduced – even some of the brewers!

I found this, if its any help. It says the dimples were added to save money by saving glass. They came about in the 1920’s. Anyway, here’s the article.

“Jug” glasses, or “dimple mugs”, are shaped more like a large mug with a handle. For added strength, they are molded with a grid pattern of thickened glass on the outside, somewhat resembling the segmentation of a WWII-era hand grenade. These glasses are rarer than the other types and are regarded as more traditional.
You may want to research “Jug” glasses.
Good luck!

Nearest I can find is the introduction of glass “steins” (with a lid) in Germany in the late 18th century when they became economic to produce.
