My boyfriend and I just had dinner at a local chain restaurant. They serve ice cream for desserts, so he got one, but it was taking too long so he asked for it "to go". We got home, he opened it and started to eat it on the couch. Then he goes, "OW! WTF?" and spits out not one, but two pieces of glass! He didn't get seriously injured, but we are afraid he may have swallowed some and also that there could be diseases.
I called the restaurant manager, and they said they want the glass back so they can test and see if it is "their" glass. Is this a scam or do they normally do that? I only let my boyfriend give them 1 of the pieces and told the manager we are keeping the other, bc I'm afraid they will throw it out and lie about it!
I was offended bc he kept telling me why it was impossible, and I kept saying, "IT JUST HAPPENED!" So, do I take the glass to a hospital to get it tested for traces of disease? Can the doctor do this? Should my boyfriend get a blood test? (continued below)
What should we do to make sure my boyfriend doesn't get a disease? What diseases can you catch off of broken glass if it cuts your gum?

What should I do, legally? Should I send the other piece to a lawyer, to see if they could force them to pay for him to get blood tests?

We have never, ever dealt with anything remotely like this. Anyone with any information or tips please share your knowledge! Thank you!
Booya,

Please don't troll, if I'm not asking my question from under your bridge, ok? I'm asking a serious question here and I'm certainly not hurting anyone, so could you save it and let the grownups talk? Thanks. Go run along.

Wow, you think I'm overreacting bc I am asking lots of questions when my boyfriend may have swallowed glass.

I don't see how you can't get any diseases being cut on glass. My friend got a staph infection when a piece of glass sticking off a shelf in a pet shop cut her knee.... Certain bacteria and viruses can live on all sorts of surfaces. I'm asking which ones, in case someone knows.

If you don't have anything to say, plz shut your trap.

no don't worry you can't get any diseases from broken glass, but i would have him checked out by a doctor anyway.

it's sound pretty serious~! However, i suggest your bf should visit a doctor and had an x-ray or something if he does swallow any glasses anot! And just go for a blood test with the doctor if the cuts does affected with any disease! As for the restaurant manager, you should send a lawyer letter to them and ask them for public apologies or even compensation! I guess them can do nothing about!

Holy crap! Overreact much? Yeah you got a piece of glass in your food and that really sucks, but accidents happen. You complained to the manager and you should have gotten your food free or at least a giftcard for the next visit, but thats it. You can't get diseases from broken glass. C'mon now.

Im sure if he hasn't caught a disease from you, he probably won't get one from the glass.

take the glass and your boyfriend to the doctor - and tell the doc what happen and your concerns - he/she might be able to help you out -
