Glass in foot?

I stood on some broken glass and cut my foot very badly, this was a week and a bit ago. i have been cleaning it regularly and can’t feel glass when i go around the cut with a needle, the area around the cut is puffy though, however its not red or infected looking. do you think there is glass in it? i’m scared of the doc and don’t want to go. i can’t walk on my foot and have to limp around everywhere, its not enjoyable. any help would be super. i have been putting on a cream called crystacide and those stick on stiches. thank you!

Please see a doctor, you cannot rely on home remidies. It is sometimes scary to see a doc, but you really should unless you want to possiblly loose your foot

You really should go to the doctor, especially if it is deep cut. If you insist on not going, your foot may heal with glass inside it or get infected.

If you continue to keep it clean, closed and covered, you may do OK, but I strongly urge you to see a doctor.

Its best to go to the doctor. Theres a good chance theres still fragments of the glass in there and if you leave it too long it can get really bad and they might have to amputate. Flushing it out with salt water helps fight infection. If it stings when you flush it out its infected and you will have to go see the doctor. They clean it out and will give you anti-biotics

Sorry this does sound like its infected I know you don’t like docs but you need to go to the emergency room now before it gets worse and then they will have to admit you if you wait . Yo can call your local ER and ask them what they think you should do they might even say you don’t need to come in but can tell you what to do. Hope this helps and good luck!!

An X-ray would actually be ineffective as you cannot see glass on an x-ray. But I am having the same problem. I got glass in my foot about 3-4 weeks ago. It hurts a lot all the time now and is puffy around the incision. It almost seems as if its cutting me from the inside out, because there is blood under the skin and the outside is healed. Think I’ll be making a trip to the ER for waiting so long. Good luck

You know, it’s gonna be a lot better if you see a doctor. There is the possibility of infection, which can cause a lot of issues. If it got seriously infected, they could have to amputate… so I would say going to the doctor is probably a lot less scary. Worst case right now you could have an infection, but probably not that bad. It’s going to be a lot better if you see a doctor about it ASAP.

Glass in foot?

ok well about 2 weeks ago i stepped on a peice of glass. I went to my bathroom put it over my bath tub and got all the blood away from the glass and pulled it out with eyebrow clipers and i washed it out and put a bandaid on it and now i look at it and theres this tiny hole in my foot and it sorta hurts but im pretty sure i got it out cuz it was just kinda a big peice but do you think i should see a doctor? i got my shots this year to go in middle school.

Believe it or not the bottom of the foot is one of the tenderest parts of the body. And a puncture wound like that will hurt like a son-of-a-gun. With out looking at it I can’t be sure but, I would be willing to say that you got all the glass out. The hole you see is the punture wound healing itself from the inside out. You may want to try warm foot soaks with epsom salts or a little hydrogen peroxide to make sure it stays clean and infection free. If you notice any abnormal swelling and/or redness, get to a Dr. Hope all goes well for you.

yeah it’s best to go to a doctor if something gets lodged in your foot.

do your parents know? even if you got out all of the glass, it could still get infected. if it keeps up or hinders you it wouldnt hurt to visit a doctor, or the school nurse anyways…

You should go to the doctor if anything gets stuck in your skin because of the infection. It may not seem like a clear piece of glass could be infected, but you never know where its been. In my life, I’ve stepped on an unfolded paperclip, a pencil, and a rusty nail. and every time i’ve been to the doctor. Your better safe than sorry.

You should go see a doctor because you can get a severe infection or damage one of your muscles by not knowing if theres still a little peice of glass left

Glass in foot?

2 days ago I got a small piece of glass in my foot (just a sliver) .Its right on the ball of my feet so I am always walking on it, this area is also VERY caloused. It is not protruding through the outside of my skin so i cant see it or take it out like that. The area isnt red yet, but it is quite painful. How can I get it out?

    on November 30th, -0001

If it were me, I’d be messing with it with a pair of tweezers after soaking it in hot water with epsom salts. Even if you do get it out, make an appt. with a dr. to make sure it doesn’t get infected.

cook a skin of onion on the stove with a little bit of cooking oil on it put on site overnite cover with bandage and in the morn it should protrude where you can get it out. my mother in law swears by this Me I use a needle and tweezers and pull the sucker out.

Have you tried soaking it in warm water for a long time to make your skin more pliable? I would try that first and if that doesn’t work try putting duct tape on it for a day. I heard this works to get splinters out. Hope you get it out soon!

Glass In Foot?

I stepped on some glass a few days ago and assumed it fell out on its own when I couldn’t find it after digging for a few minutes. Today it caused me some slight pain, but not in the puncture area. It only hurts if pressure is applied at the right angle and in the right location (about 1/2″ from wound). Is this normal?

It might be a good idea to see a doctor, unless it is close to the surface… It could be migrating and could cause severe internal bleeding.

no you need to go to the hosptal ASAP and hurry becuase it can come very infeted if there is still glass in the foot hopefully not and the doctor will give ou meds

Pour some peroxide on your foot in and around the area the glass went in, if it bubbles, you’ll know you still have some glass there. You may have a sliver in there. Try on your own to get it out, it does not require an emergency room visit.

  5. Connie
    on November 30th, -0001

depending on how big the glass is I’d go see a doctor,as it could be become infected, this will cause you more pain then what it would to take time to see a doctor to get it removed. if you cant see it yourself to remove it try with a magnifying glass and tweezers, if you cant find it, it wont be that big and wont require and emergency room visit.

The reason why your having pain 1/2” away from the wound is because the glass will be digging further into you foot.

Although, sometimes, when something such as a splinter or glass becomes infected the body has a rejection mechanism where it rejects foreign objects. This is why people who have organ transplants need to be on medication for life as this helps prevent the body rejecting the organ.
Once it becomes infected it will fall out although i wouldnt recommend it. My dad did that once and the infection caused him more pain, and it was a relief when it did fall out.

Go and see a doctor when you can. and make sure to keep it clean in the mean time.

Glass in foot?

My 20 month old stepped on glass. I used tweezers and got a piece out. I cleaned it and bandaged it. A day after i noticed it bleeding a little bit (nothing to freak out about) could there still be glass in it? How can i tell? And what should i do to be sure? (go to doctors?)

thank you

If the kid is in pain or not wanting to step on it, I would be worried. If it keeps bleeding for a couple more days, I’d see the doctor. If it is a larger cut (1/2 inch or more) I’d consider seeing the doctor.

I’d put antibiotic ointment on it and bandage it again. Maybe if he is stepping on the foot it is harder for it to heal.

There are also kinds of bandaids that you can put on either side of a cut to hold it together. Ask at your drugstore.

There could be glass still stuck in it but after a while the body should reject it and it will work itself out on its own. If there is pain associated with it then you should go to the doctor but it’s not anything to worry about as of now.

There may be a piece of glass you missed. You can take the baby to the doctor and he can run a scan.
What will happen is the body, if not infected, will protect itself by starting a cyst like wart around the glass however minute.
You’ll notice a wart like growth and, it will grow to protect the body. Then it would have to come out through surgery.

Or…….it will become infected at which the doctor can ‘pop’ it and it will possibly come out but, infected is pushing your luck.

Where did the glass come from? Was it a stray shard from a glass that got broken at an earlier time or did a glass break and the baby toddled through it. The reason for the question is simple. If it was a leftover shard from an earlier incident and you are conscientious about these things (as you should be with a toddler) then chances are the baby picked up a piece of glass you missed during cleanup. If it is old glass then the other advice is fairly sound. Clean the area very carefully with soap and water. (hydrogen peroxide is a no-no now) Watch and listen for the baby’s reaction as you touch the area around the wound. Triple antibiotic cream with or without lidocaine and cover it. Watch the baby walk and see if his/her gait has changed… if the baby is apparently favoring the wounded foot. I don’t remember if glass would show up on a regular X-ray. Normally, the body will push out any foreign bodies. Like if you get a splinter in you and do not get it all out. In a few days the body will reject the foreign object pushing it to the surface. If you are concerned call the doctor’s office and see if a regular xray of the foot will show any leftover pieces of glass. If it will… it is worth peace of mind to find out. Best of luck.

if u think there could still be glass left in it then make an appointment with the doctor. i don’t mean to scare u here. i work in a sewing store with the machines and accessories. a co-work of mine was sewing with her machine at home. the machine runs on its own….called embroidery if u don’t know. she had her finger in the way and the needle went into her finger, and broke! she eventually went to the doctor and i think she said her finger was infected. it looked like it was before she went in. since your child is only 20 months old u should take him or her in just to be safe.

    on November 30th, -0001

You should take your child to the doctors or you could ring the NHS help line. There could still be some glass fragment there.

  7. Wildthing
    on November 30th, -0001

It will be hard for you as a mother to determine if any foreign objects are in they’re apart from the obvious looking. Best to go get an xray to be sure as glass shows up on xrays.
