Does anyone have [problems with glass doorknobs??
we have glass doorknobs in our apt? when you turn them, nstead of opening the door…it just keeps turning. we have to takeit apart just to open the door. also they break very easily. we were told we had to buy the same one at home dept so we didnt have to drill a huge whole for regular ones. we installed them on one door today and it does the same thing as the old ones? are we doing somethign wrong or is it just the doorknobs???? help

Besides replacing the knob, you may have to replace the spindle that the knob attaches to. If it’s the style I think, the knob has a threaded hole that fits onto a threaded spindle. If the spindle threads are damaged which is common, you’ll need to replace that as well. Be sure that when you tighten the two screws on the knob handle that hold it tight on the spindle, that you allow a gap between knob and door.
I have noticed the quality of these replacement knobs is quite poor myself. The metal threads are very soft and you need to be careful when threading.

Be careful with those. My dad was resealing the wood doors before we moved. And he lifted the glass door knob to stabilize the door while he moved the door to the garage and the glass shattered in his hand and cut his finger wide open. It was really bad…nothing to do with your question..just warning you.

Sounds like you are getting them too tight on the spindle. They are meant to be slightly loose so they can turn. Most people think they are ‘sloppy’ and about to fall off the door. But doorknob technology when they were new was for a much looser fit. Try not getting them so tight and allow for some extra breathing room and I think your knob problems will be remedied.
