Do old glass negatives have any value?
I have a old glass negative with the actual photo what do you think the best thing to do with it. not sure it would display very well. It is is prime condition.Sould I give it to a museum or just hang on to it. what is the best way to store it.

I agree with rc_gromit that the value depends on the age and the condition. It is not terribly difficult to get a usable image from a glass negative – just scan it with a flatbed scanner, convert to positive and maybe tweak it for contrast. Most image editing programs will do these things.
Upon seeing the subject, you may want to print the image or use it for a web site, etc. I’ve seen some images done this way that were spectacular in their detail and in the subjects. I doubt the ones I saw were valuable except perhaps to the person’s family.

I think it depends on the subject and approximate date of the negative. The ones from the Civil War are valuable because most of them were lost (used as glass for green-houses).
I would suggest wrapping it in a soft cloth and take it to a museum. Talk to the curator and see what they’d recommend for either storing it, displaying it, or donating it. You may be able to do this over the phone.

Glass plates were last used in the 1930’s. I have about 800 pounds of 8×10 glass plates of the Los Angeles/Long Beach area.
The plate itself may have some historical significance. You should be able make a print of the image and display it.
Keep it in a cool dark area away from dust as much as possible.

I have 142 old glass negatives. Images of The Liberty Bell, War, Mules, Trees, Maps, Trains, Battle Ships. ETC. How do I know the prices of these so I dont get ripped off if I take them to an Antique store? Is there anyone you reccomend? I can forward some images if interested. Thank You

I bought a few glass negatives from an Antique mall, and am trying to figure out who even made them. Their so different. Parthenon (Greece), Caryatides(Greece), Mercator’s Projection ( ??), Ancient Jerusalem map, statue picture of Athena , greek ( had to look up). Harder than I thought to research.
