Can spray paint be used on glass?
I got a couple new sconces, and I don’t like the harsh effect of the white glass surrounding the light bulb (is this called the globe?). Anyway, I’d like to make the glass an amber-goldish/brownish color… Can I just spray paint them? If so, any particular type of paint? They were expensive, so I don’t want to ruin them! Thanks! Kathi

Yes – and they make special glass spray paints. There’s an actual “Frosted Glass” spray you can try. We used that on a couple lights…

shouldn’t be a problem if you don’t like it, use paint thinner to get rid of it. i would say, get a rust color and spray it on, then get a rag wipe parts of it to give it a stone effect. good luck.

Yes you can use spray paint on glass as long as you etch the glass first with an acid etch solution available at art stores or Home Depot.. What this does id give the paint a rough surface to adhere to.

you can spray paint glass with the dollar store stuff, and get a frosted look or heavy if you wish. It will adhere without any special pre-paint work.

I work at a hardware store, and we sell a product called Krylon Fusion which has excellent bonding properties. It can stick to almost anything without priming first.

I actually found this beautiful chandelier that has lots of detailed scroll work on it and it had amber colored glass globes. I just love it, found it at a thrift store! I’m wanting to paint the globes a frosted white color or a shade of pink for my daughters bedroom though! Thrift stores and home improvement resale stores are great for great finds!! Hope u find what u need!
