Goldfish can not live in bowls. They can survive in them for a short period of time. Maybe 2 or 3 years. A goldfish should live 20-40 years. If they die before tht it’s your fault. Just because they cost $2.99 doesn’t make them less alive.
A Black Moor is one of the most delicate types of goldfish. He will not last long in a bowl, probably 6 mos. 1 year if you are lucky. Goldfish need at least ten gallons per fish with a filter made for at least twice that size tank.
My suggestion is to get a twenty long and get your baby a friend. Invest some money into making the tank beautiful. Buy an interesting piece of driftwood, lots of silk water plants maybe put a bubble wall in the back. If you put 2 goldies in there and do bi-weekly 1/3 water changes then they will be 5-6 inches in a year. They will fill the tank nicely.
If you don’t have room for a tank then get a betta instead of a Goldfish.
Good Luck!!!

a gold fish is a gold fish… just a small filter in there (which you can buy at walmart for $12) they’ll live.

you can use the bowl… but you will have to clean this bowl a lot and constantly change part of the water… in the long run it is better to get a filtered tank …

Yes, but it will have to be cleaned a lot more often than a filtered tank.

Technically, you can. It’s not great for the fish as the water is not filtered. The fish will not live as long and you’d have to clean it a lot more often. Goldfish are “dirty” fish, they produce a lot of ammonia in thier waste. Too much ammonia makes your fish sick. I’d go for a filtered tank, they have some fairly small set ups at PetSmart/Petco. The general rule of thumb is one gallon of water per full grown inch of fish. You’d need around a 5 gallon tank. I like the mini-bow brand, the filters are really quiet and they look nice. This is not a glass aquarium. It comes in a kit with everything you need except the plants and gravel.

Can you use a glass bowl? Yes…..Would I suggest it? No….Black Moors are hardier then most of your typical, tropical fish but as goldfish go they are rather sensitive to water conditions. A heater it optional of course….but I would maintain the water in the High 60′s – low 70′s which may require a heater…..but filters are generally always a must to help maintain water conditions – not to mention Black Moors get to be pretty good in size….you don’t have to have a lot of room for a filtered tank……there are really great 3-5 gallon tanks that you can get that are inexpensive and will fit anywhere a bowl can go…..I my self would not go any smaller that a 5 gallon…..just check with you LFS (Local Fish Store) and they should direct you to all you need to have a healthy happy fish…..good luck and happy fish-keeping.

You certainly need a filtered tank for the black moor. Goldfish of any kind are one of the dirtiest fish kept (waste-wise). I bought a 3-gallon filtered system for a black moor, only spent about $30 (at WalMart); the tank kit had everything except fish and water, was octagon-shaped, so it looks cool, too. Even came with some sample food, although I recommend just going ahead and getting some fresher food. Black moors are fun to keep. Good luck!
