Zirconium is the name of the ELEMENT with the symbol Zr. It is not a stone. Moreover an element cannot have a cubic shape.
Perhaps you meant Zircon, which is zirconium silicate ZrSiO4. Its natural shape is prismatic and its crystal system is Tetragonal and not Cubic. Its hardness is 7.5 and NOT 8.5 as informed by Hzl.
Anyway, being 7.5 in Moho’s scale of hardness, it can cut glass (H : 5.5 apx) very easily.

Cubic zirconium is very rare in nature. The ones you buy in a jewlery store are made in a lab. It is hard enought to scratch glass.

About Me
ALES LOMBERGAR is one of the few artisans in Europe who still practice the ancient art of glass acid etching which flourished in the late 19th century. Decorations are applied with resin resists by hand and then exposed to acid baths, with no machinery used. More information here.
