Are Coloured Glass pebbles safe for fish tanks?
I have put green glass pebbles in bottom of fish tank, water is a little cloudy after a week, is there anything in the glass pebbles that is causing this?

Probably. Did you rinse them out before you put them in? If not, that could be the problem. Other than that nothing is wrong, unless the pebbles are colored on the outside with poisonous paints and haven’t been sealed.

yes as long as you rinsed them and they are not the gravel at walmarts that are just spray painted different colors.

Did you rinse them like you’re supposed to before putting them in your tank? Glass pebbles are not harmful…but that is based on whether you rinse them adequately.

No, probably not. The glass pebbles like you get from a craft store are perfectly safe for an aquarium.
If this is a new tank you are seeing the beginnings of the cycling process. If not then it’s a bacterial bloom that will diminish in a few days. For more on the cycling process see this link:

Hope that helps!

They should be fine as long as they are not of the painted varity. The cloudyness could be caused by a number of things :
1) did you rinse then first?
2) have you put anything else in the tank, ie wood without boiling it?
3) have you checked and cleaned your filter
Best bet buy a decent book on fish and fish tanks

There shouldn’t be if you rinsed them first.
If it is a new fish tank, it may just be a bacterial bloom, this is normal and should subside shortly.

Glass is safe the cloudy water if tank has cycled is probably not. Water change vacuum bottom to remove waste, clean filter. Good Luck..><>

Glass is inert so its very safe. I would rinse them before I’d put them in the tank. I don’t know if not rinsing would cause bad cloudyness though. Its not necessarily the glass, could be ammonia or algae bloom. Have your water tested and change water as needed.

They should be. I use them for my betta tanks and they are perfectly fine. Make sure to rinse them off throughly before putting them in the tank though. You may also want to try colored gravol, which isin’t glass, but it is bright colors so it looks just the same!
Hope this helps!

I doubt its the glass i have a few red ones of those in my main tank. I think your tank is over crouded and you should remove one or 2 fish. Did you just buy this tank, if so it has not been cycled yet.
Cycling for noobies
1-You add water
2-you add cheap fish that will die soon ater
3-your water gets cloudy
4-your fish dies
5-nothing left in your tank
6-water gets mysteriously clear
7-add a couple of cheap goldfish
8-water gets cloudy
9-one or 2 fish die
10-your tank is clear again and cycled.

I have glass pebbles in my fish tank and my fish are swimming around very happily. They are so much easier to clean than gravel, which just seems to hoard all the dirt. If ur tank is near a window the water can become cloudy and dirty quicker. I just presume the cloudiness is coming from the fish as they wee and poo and release hormones into the water.

you might have an algae issue. if your tank gets a lot of light either from the hood or the sun algae will start to grow. there is medication out there to take care of it. a partial water change can help as well. if not you can always get a pleco or a chinese algae eater to maintina the tank

Do NOT put colored glass pebbles in with your fish. Most of the decorator colored glass balls or pebbles have been tinted on the outside of the pebble and will slowly poison your fish.
Take a very sharp knife and scrape on the surface of one of the pebbles. If a coating comes off DO NOT USE IT.
I found out the hard way. My beloved betta just died from poisoning today. I finally figured out why he was sick.
