Hi, I want to acid etch some aluminium using photoresist masks and I am looking for sources in the uk for supplying the neccesary mordants/acids. Does anyone know of what is the best mordant to use on ally for a beginner? (I have etched circuit boards, copper etc, but never aluminium) The design I want to etch is also quite fine.. Hazardous acids are no problem as I have the neccesary extraction and work areas.

Thanks in advance

To summarise

1/What is the best acid to use in this case?

2/Any suppliers anyone can recommend?

I etch with aluminium and use Ferric Chloride. You can get it from Intaglio printmakers. The website address is http://www.intaglioprintmaker.com/shop/default.asp?c1=0&c2=7

(this link should take you to their acid solutions page)
