I am 18 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I was never a water drinker, never liked the taste, and generally lived on soda, juice and tea before pregnancy. Since I found out I was pregnant (at 4 weeks) I have been trying to drink water all the time, trying to drink 8 glasses a day too. Usually I fall somewhere are 4 to 6 glasses a day. How do you women schedule your water intake? One glass with each meal and after each meal still only gives me 6 glasses a day, should I drink 2 glasses with each meal minimum? How do you make sure you are getting the 64oz a day? Please let me know, I am worried about my water intake. Thanks!

There's actually nothing to support the exactly 8 glasses a day theory. Drinking too much water is actually harmful (8 glasses isn't too much) as it flushes out nutrients you actually need.
You can drink juice and as it's almost 100 percent water. It doesn't make a difference how you get your water as long as you're hydrated adequately. |

I take a 52 oz cup with me to work and I drink water with my meals. I have to keep the water SUPER cold or I won't drink. You may want to try using a straw too, it helps me drink more.

i was bad at drinking water at first, I just got used to it...sometimes i use the flavored water. i would keep water with me at all times, and treat myself to milk or maybe even a soda here and there with a meal. It was so hard to get used to drinking that much water, at first, but you get used to it...
Later on in the pregnancy, I would get these leg cramps when I would try to sleep, a nurse practioner told me to drink more water, they went away after that. Also, I think the water helps with reduction of stretch marks too. I ended up drinking about 64 oz a day, at least. |

Well, my doctor told me a bottle an hour....excessive I know, but I think he exagerates so I will end up taking about 6-8......Needless to say, I hate water and end up taking in about 4-6 a day.
Since, I am not a big fan of water, my strategy is between the hours of 8am-7pm I just continuously drink water. Always have it near you. Also, if you drink it through a straw or somesort of bottle that has a straw, it is actually easier to get down a bunch of it. People will advice, fruit water, gatorade.....etc, whichis a good source of water, but in all honesty, I dont have the money to be buying 42 fruit waters a week to supply my intake. What I do is get some fruit water and maybe have one a day, and then my other water I just put lime or lemon juice in and it makes it much easier to get down. Don't be hard on yourself if you don't get your intake "every" day. The weekend I tend to slack off and give myself a "pregnancy nutrition break". |

I love water, but I too found it hard to drink 8 glasses a day. Just be thankful that it's not summer time. My doctor advised during the summer that I drink a gallon and a half. What I found worked for me was to take 2 water bottles to work and drink those. Try and refill them at least once. Then when I got home I'd drink really big cups of water with every meal. If you don't drink all of the water it's not going to harm you. But it helps out with constipation, water retention, your skin...etc. Good luck =)

Drinking water before and after meal is not the best idea. There are several reasons to avoid drinking water 30 mins b4 and after a proper meal. It makes you feel too full and I beleive your digestive fluids are diluted.
Best thing to do is to fill a water bottle and keep drinking it all day till you are done with the day's quota. 2lt or 8 gl is the minumum. I'm 4 weeks and I think atleast 10 gl. But I've always been a water drinker, so I understand it's different for you. |

If you are drinking 6 glasses of water a day, you are probably fine for your water intake. You get water from a lot of different sources - if you drink juice, tea, milk, or soda (even if it's not caffeine free), you are getting water from those. However, caffeine is known to dehydrate you, so drink caffeine free when you can!
You also get water from foods you eat, especially fruits and vegetables. I've read that soup, fruit, and veggies are 80% water - and a wedge of watermelon can contain 9 oz. of water. That's a full serving! (One serving of water is 8 oz). There is a good chance that the glasses you are using to drink water are more than 8 oz., so you might even be consuming more than you think. If you drink when your body tells you you're thirsty, you are probably getting enough water. |
